300D
Mercedes-Benz 300 D was a model in the Series 123 line of sedans, one which replaced the Series 114 and 115 models dubbed "Stroke Eight." It was distinctive in the history of classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles, with a semi-trailing arm rear axle, a double-wishbone front suspension, and large, round dual headlights, plus a host of safety improvements such as a stiffer roof frame, high-strength pillars for the roof and door, and door reinforcements.
The model family was comprised of three cars. One was the base Mercedes-Benz 300 D, which ran from 1976 to 1985. It had a sprightly 80-horsepower in-line, five-cylinder diesel engine, and one had a choice among four- and five-speed manual and four-speed automatic transmissions. The second was a variant with a longer wheelbase (3425 mm as opposed to the standard 2795 mm), and it was offered between 1977 and 1985. The third was a turbodiesel model, which was available from 1981 to 1985. It had the same type of engine, but it was turbocharged for higher efficiency and slightly improved power output (121 horsepower). A four-speed auto transmission came standard, and it had the standard-length 2795 mm wheelbase. All three were succeeded by Mercedes-Benz Series 124, which released in 1984.
