300TD

The Mercedes-Benz 300 TD was a station wagon in the greater Mercedes-Benz Series 123 line that ran from 1978 to 1985. The "T" in the nomenclature meant "tourism and transport."

Two models comprised it. One, the Mercedes-Benz 300 TD, incorporated an in-line, five-cylinder diesel engine mated to either a four- or five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. It was initially capable of 80 horsepower, and from 1979 on, it was rated at 88 horsepower. Its distinctive features ranged from twin headlights to black air-inlet grilles.

The other model in the line, the Mercedes-Benz 300 TD Turbodiesel, came out in 1980. It, too, had an inline-five diesel engine, but one with an exhaust turbocharger and one that produced 125 horsepower. It paired with a four-speed auto gearbox, and its standout features included rectangular wide-band headlights and chromed air-inlet grilles in front of the windshield.

Both models went out of production in early 1986.
