The Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL was a car in the Mercedes-Benz Series 109 lineup. The family itself was offered between 1965 and the 1972 model year, but each 300 SEL variant was available at different points, and the features of each differed somewhat.

300 SEL proper, for instance, ran from 1966 to 1970. It incorporated an in-line, six-cylinder engine capable of 2996 cc displacement (2778 cc 1968 and later) and 170 horsepower. The motor paired with either a four or five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission.

The 300 SEL 3.5, however, ran between 1969 and 1972. It had a V8 engine that displaced 3499 cc and delivered 200 horsepower. You could get either a four-speed manual or a four-speed auto transmission for it.

300 SEL 4.5 was offered for 1971 and 1972. It, too, built in an eight-cylinder engine, but this motor was capable of 4520 cc displacement and, mating to a three-speed auto transmission, shelled out 198 horsepower. The 300 SEL 6.3 ran from 1967 to 1972, it had a V8, displaced 6332 cc, and put out 250 horsepower when paired with a four-speed auto gearbox.
