Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL was a model nomenclature representing many different luxury cars from several different Mercedes-Benz series.

One was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL from Mercedes-Benz Series 109 (W 109 III). It debuted in 1966 and ran for one year, until 1967. The car incorporated an in-line, six-cylinder (I6) engine with a light-alloy block, one mated to either a four- or five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. The pairing produced 170 horsepower.

Another was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 6.3, also from Mercedes-Benz Series 109 (W 109 E 63). It released in 1967 and ran until 1972 and featured a 250-horsepower V8 engine paired with a four-speed auto transmission. Yet another Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL from Mercedes-Benz Series 109 (W 109 E 28) was offered between 1968 and 1970; it had a 170-horsepower I6 engine mated to either a four- or five-speed manual or a four-speed auto gearbox.

Four more variants were offered between the late 1960s and the mid-1990s. The first was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 3.5 from Mercedes-Benz Series 109 (W 109 E 35/1), which ran between 1969 and 1972 and had a 200-horsepower V8 paired with either a four-speed manual or a four-speed auto. The second was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL 4.5 from Mercedes-Benz Series 109 (W 109 E 45), offered from 1971 to 1972 and sporting a 198-horsepower V8 and a three-speed auto. The third was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL from Mercedes-Benz Series 126 (V 126 E 30), which was available between 1985 and 1991; it had an I6 built in, mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed auto, and the engine achieved 179 horsepower with an optional closed-loop, three-way catalyst installed (188 horsepower without it). The fourth was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL from Mercedes-Benz Series 140 (V 140 E 32), which ran from 1991 until mid-1993, when it became a member of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and completed its run in 1994. This variant had an inline-six engine capable of 231 horsepower when paired with either a five-speed manual or a four- or five-speed auto gearbox.
