The Mercedes-Benz 300 SD was an early Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan and a part of the Mercedes-Benz Series 116 line. The latter debuted in 1972 and was offered until 1980, but the 300 SD model itself came out in 1978.

That year, it featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter, five-cylinder diesel engine that displaced 3005 cc (2998 cc in late 1978 and later) and got 111 horsepower (121 horsepower from late 1979 forward). It paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and incorporated an anti-lock brake system.
