The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE was a model in the greater Mercedes-Benz Series 111 line; it succeeded the Mercedes-Benz 250 SE.

There were several variants. A coupe and cabriolet (convertible), for example, were offered between 1968 and 1971. They sported in-line six-cylinder engines capable of 160 horsepower and paired with four- or five-speed manual transmissions or four-speed automatics. They had distinctive decorative wheel covers with boss caps built in.

A 280 SE 3.5 coupe and convertible, for another example, ran from 1969 - 1971. They had 3.5-liter V8 engines mated to either four-speed manual or four-speed auto transmissions, and they were capable of 200 horsepower. Their radiator grilles were designed lower and wider, their hoods were slightly lower up front, and their bumpers were modified, incorporating rubber strips.
