The Mercedes-Benz 250 S was part of the greater Mercedes-Benz Series 108 line; it debuted in 1965, succeeding the model line nicknamed "Fintail Mercedes," which had come out in 1959. The car incorporated a 130-horsepower, 2.5-liter, in-line, six-cylinder engine, mated to a choice of either a four-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. It had a double-wishbone front suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, and power steering was optional. Mercedes-Benz Series 116 succeeded the lineup after 1969.
