230S
Mercedes-Benz 230 S was a part of Mercedes-Benz Series 111, which ran between 1959 and 1968. The line was nicknamed "Fintail Mercedes." The model itself, however, came out in 1965. It was based on the Mercedes-Benz 220 Sb, and it replaced the Mercedes-Benz 220 b.
The base Mercedes-Benz 230 S ran on an in-line, six-cylinder engine, which had been designed with a wider bore and higher compression. Coupled with either a four-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission, the result was a performance boost to 120 horsepower. The car also had a hydro-pneumatic self-levelling rear axle suspension; it replaced a coil spring and kept the car's body level constant, whatever its load.
There were two variants. One was a Mercedes-Benz 230 S Universal model, a station wagon that released in 1966. The other was a chassis-only Mercedes-Benz 230 S. It was used to build special-purpose car bodies -- those for ambulances, station wagons, and hearses.
