Mercedes-Benz 220 represents several models in the Mercedes-Benz Series 115 line, namely, the "Stroke Eight" sedans that were offered between 1968 and 1976. They were available in two runs, from 1968 to 1973 and from 1973 to 1976.

The former run was made up of essentially five models. One of them, the Mercedes-Benz 220 D/8, incorporated an in-line, four-cylinder diesel engine with a 60-horsepower output. It was mated to either a four-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes-Benz 220/8, however, was a variant, with an in-line, four-cylinder gas engine with a 105-horsepower output.

The other three were a Mercedes-Benz 220 D/8 with a long 3,400-millimeter wheelbase, a chassis-only Mercedes-Benz 220 D/8 for special-purpose car bodies (like ambulances, station wagons, and hearses), and a chassis-only Mercedes-Benz 220 D/8 with the long wheelbase measuring 3400mm. The latter run contained one model; it was a Mercedes-Benz 220 D/8 similar to that in the first run.
